The International Conference on Arab Publishing and Creative Industries concluded its work with a dialogue session entitled “New Trends in Reading Patterns: Towards Promoting the Love of Reading in the Next Generation,” in the presence of Luis Gonzalez, General Director of the Casa Lector Foundation in Spain, and Isobel Abulhoul, founding partner of Magrudy Libraries, founder and consultant. And a member of the Board of Trustees of the Emirates Literature Foundation, and Muhammad Al-Baghdadi, President and CEO of Al-Manhal Arabic Content Company. The session was moderated by Georgia Tully, a presenter and interviewer on Dubai Eye Radio (103.8 FM).
In this session, the speakers discussed creative and interactive strategies to instill a love of reading in the hearts of future generations. The discussions focused on interactive content in the Arabic language with the participation of a group of experts and thinkers, who reviewed the transformative methods that would enhance children’s passion for literature and consolidate the role of the Arabic story in building a distinctive cultural identity.
Abulhoul stressed the need to enhance the love of reading in our children, and this is mainly due to the presence of a home that loves reading and the parents’ awareness that their children’s attachment to reading makes them superior to their peers, so they work to pay attention to mental nutrition alongside regular nutrition, and this awareness is important for every adult who deals with children and not Limited to parents.
While Al-Baghdadi pointed to the obstacles facing electronic publishing, and how to communicate with children so that they continue to love reading from an early age, especially since children of this age can access information with just the click of a button, but we must train them and encourage them to read using technology, and this continues through the stages. Building and shaping personality, as technology is a great enabler, but it has its own problems that must be taken care of. It is necessary to invest a lot of money in the field of electronic reading, especially with the scarcity of Arabic content, despite the large number of publications that are similar in content despite the different titles.
Luis Gonzalez said that research has proven that reading is a difficult and external process and doubles the effort on the human mind, and one of the reasons for the lack of interest in reading, according to one of the research conducted 3 years ago, is the influence of the group of friends that consider reading a matter related to homework, and leads the person to separate from friends. . In addition to another challenge, it is the lack of money to obtain books, and there are some libraries that cannot provide books to large numbers of people. These are factors that must be combined with the aim of overcoming them in order to reach generations that are attached to reading and aware of its importance in all aspects of their lives.
