Hamas was famous for its complex tunnels, which were one of its most prominent “techniques” to confront the Israeli army during the ongoing war, but a new report revealed that Hezbollah possesses “more complex” tunnels than Gaza, in Lebanon.

The French newspaper “Liberation” revealed in a report that the Lebanese Hezbollah militia possesses a network of secret tunnels that is more advanced than that of Hamas in Gaza.

According to the newspaper, the Lebanese militia possesses tunnels that are hundreds of kilometers long and have branches that reach Israel and perhaps beyond that, all the way to Syria.

The newspaper quoted Israeli researchers and websites as saying that the party had established a defense plan with dozens of operations centers equipped with local underground networks linking Beirut, the Bekaa, and southern Lebanon.

Tunnel leading to Galilee Hospital?

The government in Tel Aviv envisions the presence of Hezbollah tunnels on the northern border, reaching Galilee Hospital, in the city of Nahariya, located on the northern Israeli coast.

Months ago, after complaints received by the administration of the Medical Center in Nahariya about drilling noise, the Israeli army decided to conduct a series of ground tests to rule out the fear of the existence of a tunnel leading from Lebanon to the aforementioned hospital.

The Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom revealed that more than a month ago, the Israeli authorities conducted more than 40 excavation operations for the purpose of testing, but these tests did not yield anything, according to the newspaper, and accordingly, they ruled out the suspicion of the existence of tunnels in the hospital area.

The newspaper pointed out that the Galilee Hospital in Nahariya is the hospital closest geographically to the northern border with Lebanon, that is, only about 10 km, noting that the initial reports on the issue of suspected tunnels came in December of last year.

She added, “We are talking about a facility that existed even before the Second Lebanon War (the 2006 war), and it was the first in Israel with this plan.”

Hezbollah tunnels

It is noteworthy that the Israeli army announced 5 years ago the discovery of 5 tunnels dug by the Lebanese Hezbollah within the Israeli borders.

With the outbreak of war on Gaza, the Israeli newspaper “Jerusalem Post” said that there were concerns about the threat to Hezbollah’s tunnels again. She pointed out that “Hezbollah has extensive experience in digging underground tunnels,” noting that “it was discovered that the (Hamas) tunnels are much larger and more extensive than previously thought. Is it possible that the threat from Hezbollah’s tunnels is greater than thought?” previously?”.

The ALMA Center for Research and Education, which focuses on northern threats, noted that “after the Second Lebanon War in 2006, Hezbollah, with the help of the North Koreans and Iranians, established a project to form a network of regional tunnels in Lebanon, a network much larger than that of Hamas.”
