The government reported that it had studied the proposal with a desire to raise the percentage of government support for electricity consumers in the household consumption category for the Bahraini subscriber on one account from (3000) units to (6000) units during the summer season, while maintaining the current support during the winter, spring and summer seasons, from November to April.
The government is important to point out that it continues to support electricity and water services for the citizen in his first residence, and the annual government support in 2022 amounted to (223,000,000) two hundred and twenty-three million dinars.
The government emphasizes that increasing the efficiency of the Electricity and Water Authority to achieve a balance between its revenues and expenses represents one of the elements of the government’s financial balance that it seeks to achieve, and therefore, any additional support more than what is currently in place will lead to a significant reduction in the authority’s revenues.
Implementing the desire will result in reducing the revenues of that body by an amount not less than (8,000,000) (eight million dinars), which will upset the balance between its expenses and revenues, and is not in line with the financial balance program and hinders the government’s plans to raise the efficiency of the aforementioned body’s performance and provide better services. For consumers, it negatively affects the development climate in the Kingdom.
In addition, the greatest pressure on the electricity network usually occurs in the summer, which means an increase in the budgets required for maintenance and repair work. The government indicates the impossibility of implementing the desire due to the resulting financial cost that is not included in the state’s general budget.
