Junichi Hayama began the workshop by answering some questions about his beginnings. Hayama surprised the audience by saying that he did not study drawing in any well-known college, but rather gained his experience from life. He said: “At the beginning, I wanted to join a vocational college to learn drawing, but one of my close friends had a brother who works in the field.” Animation, and my friend introduced me to it, and he is the one who introduced me to this field. During the duration of the 75-minute workshop, Junichi Hayama drew a group of world-famous animation heroes that he had worked on during his career, such as “Yugo Muto,” “Jotaro Jojo,” and “Kenshiro” from the most famous manga series, Fire Sword. Hayama draws these heroes and the vertical camera shows the drawing method through the large screen to the audience. Hayama shared many important tips for beginners in the field of animation and cartoonists, as he told them: “Forget about the issue of technique, tools, etc., the most important thing for you to do is to draw what you love. Everything comes with practice after that.”
Regarding the most difficult thing he faced during his work as a painter and animation director, he said: “The character that exhausted me the most to work on was Yugmoto. Working on characters with wide eyes is very difficult, and it is even more difficult when their clothes are full of details.”

During the second half of the workshop, Junichi Hayama shared many tips and details with the workshop participants who were interested in the field of animation, explaining the basic points and techniques necessary to highlight the aesthetics of the drawn characters, and their importance in the visual narrative during the animation process, starting with basic movements such as walking and running, all the way to the poses. He said: “What you must keep in mind when you draw your heroes is to study the natural movement of the body, contemplate living models, and know the details of the human body and facial expressions well, because this will enable you to draw more realistic movements and more detailed expressions for your characters.
