While negotiations continue in Cairo to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, in the presence of CIA Director William Burns, on Thursday, an informed source revealed positive signs.

An informed source explained that there are what he described as signs of the maturation of an agreement that may end 7 months of the bloody war on the Gaza Strip, according to what was reported by the Egyptian Cairo News Channel.

“Controversial points”

He pointed out that indirect negotiations are being completed today in order to work on resolving the “controversial points.”

He also added that Hamas, the Islamic Jihad Movement, and the Popular Front are participating in the talks, noting that the Popular Front has agreed to amend the stages of the ceasefire.

“Back to calm”

In addition, he revealed that the Deputy Secretary-General of the Popular Front, Jamil Mezher, had amended a clause related to the ceasefire to read: “Returning to sustainable calm and reaching a permanent ceasefire.”

He pointed out that this clause will be implemented during the stages of the agreement over a period of 135 days.

He also considered that this represented “a waiver of the requirement to implement this clause during the first phase,” noting also that Israel deleted the phrase “a permanent ceasefire and maintained a sustainable one,” which allows it to return at any time without commitment.

This came after Izzat Al-Rishq, a member of Hamas’ political bureau in Qatar, confirmed in a statement late yesterday, Wednesday, that the movement would not go further than the ceasefire proposal it accepted last Monday, which includes the release of some Israeli prisoners in Gaza and Palestinian prisoners, women and children. Detained in Israel.

He also considered that “Israel is not serious about reaching an agreement, and is using the negotiations as a cover to invade Rafah and occupy the crossing.”

However, he stressed at the same time that “Hamas is adhering to its position that it informed the mediators of approving their proposal.”

There has been no comment yet from Israel, which announced on Monday that the three-stage proposal approved by Hamas is unacceptable, because it includes mitigating conditions.

While the United States considered, on Tuesday, that Hamas’ amendment to the ceasefire proposal could lead to overcoming the deadlock in the negotiations.

It is noteworthy that delegations from Hamas, Israel, the United States, Egypt and Qatar have been meeting in Cairo since last Tuesday, in order to reach an agreement that will restore calm to the devastated Gaza and lead to the exchange of prisoners between the two sides.

Hamas had previously insisted that any agreement stipulate a permanent cessation of war, with an international guarantee that Israel would implement this condition and adhere to it, which was rejected by the Israeli side publicly in the words of many of its officials in recent days.

Tel Aviv also insisted on ousting Hamas from power and preventing it from returning to power in the Gaza Strip, without giving a clear plan for the future of Gaza’s governance.
