The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Food Company, Basem Al-Saei, confirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain needs an increase in food production, pointing out the possibility of using modern agricultural techniques to provide food and food security in the country.
He added that the food company is primarily within the portfolio of the Mumtalakat Company, which also includes 3 food security companies, namely the Flour Mills Company, the General Poultry Company and Delmon Poultry Company.
He stressed that the first goal is integration between the three companies, and reaching coordination between them, to increase production in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Al-Saei continued, “We have several things that can be shared, instead of falling solely on the responsibility of a specific party. There will certainly be savings in prices and purchases, and product prices can be improved if coordination occurs.”
He pointed out that the second stage is to enter into complementary projects in the food sectors, as they are considered to have great added value.
Al-Saei explained that there are many agricultural problems in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and they can be solved through the use of modern technologies such as horizontal or vertical farming, and other methods and methods of irrigation.
He added, “We need to produce multiple times the quantities currently produced, because consumption in Bahrain is much higher, and the soil of Bahrain and the nature of the atmosphere increase the difficulty of production, but it can certainly be overcome.”
He stressed that the food company will evaluate the situation and then make decisions regarding the establishment of new complementary companies that will cover some aspects of the shortage.
