During Reading Month, the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center presents an integrated cultural program full of events and activities dedicated to all members of society.

Within the program, the center organizes cultural, literary, and dialogue sessions that host an elite group of writers, thinkers, and poets, and other activities such as the “Bookcase” initiative to enrich the culture and knowledge of the participants, enhance the status of the Arabic language, instill a love of reading, and emphasize the role of the book and its status as an essential tributary to human development. And advancing the process of cultural renaissance.

His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Tamim, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre, said: “The Month of Reading is one of the most important cultural and developmental events that contribute to promoting the culture of reading as it is a major driver in building and refining human knowledge, and a fundamental pillar of the comprehensive societal development process, with the distinctive quality activities it provides.” It reflects the interest of the United Arab Emirates in establishing a conscious generation, so we are keen annually to participate in an integrated program of events that contribute to achieving our goals aimed at connecting all members of society with the Arabic language, books, and sources of knowledge, and establishing the culture of reading to be a starting point for advancing the culture and knowledge of all members of society.”

The Center is organizing the “Library Treasures Activity” session, which is hosted by the Children’s Library at the Cultural Foundation and Umm Al Emarat Park in the capital, Abu Dhabi, on March 23 and 24, and includes entertainment segments and reading sessions for distinctive cultural publications from the “Bookcase,” in a way that enhances the presence of books and enriches the culture of community members. And a workshop to teach drawing, Arabic calligraphy, and handicrafts, in which Haya Al-Qassim and Maryam Al Jasmi participated.

The center also holds a virtual workshop for employees of the Ministry of Interior that introduces them to the website for managing specialized libraries, and guides them to the steps for subscribing, searching, and targeting the databases available on the digital platform and everything related to the website.

The Center held a session on “Arabic Calligraphy” hosting calligrapher “Ismail Al Hosani”, who reviewed his experience and discussed the history of Arabic calligraphy, and the role of the UAE globally in preserving the art of Arabic calligraphy and its tools, and highlighting its status and aesthetics. The Center also organizes on the occasion of World Poetry Day, which falls on March 21, a poetry evening in which a group of poets participate to celebrate the aesthetics of poetry and the sweetness of language, and to highlight the role of poets in crafting innovative poems.

The Ministry of Culture had launched the National Reading Month in implementation of the Council of Ministers’ decision, which designated March as the National Month of Reading every year. This month aims to strengthen the connection with reading and intensify initiatives and programs that encourage it.
