Aksungur – Türkiye’s new generation heavy UAV

Aksungur is a mid-range unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI).

This multi-purpose UAV system has a high payload and can perform intelligence gathering, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), maritime patrol, signals intelligence collection and attack missions. under both day and night conditions.

According to the manufacturer, Aksungur is 12.5m long, 3.1m high, has a wingspan of 24.2m and has a maximum takeoff weight of 3.3 tons. This UAV has a backup takeoff and landing system and a power generation system. The vehicle has three variants developed for different missions, including surveillance and reconnaissance, ground attack and maritime patrol versions. These variants are all integrated with electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) cameras, synthetic aperture radar, sensors and a variety of air-to-ground weapons.

Aksungur has three pylons in each wing and is capable of carrying a load of up to 750kg, can carry up to 12 MAM-L missiles, Mk-82 multi-purpose bombs with precision guidance and Roketsan long-range cruise missiles. SOM and many other small diameter bombs.

Using two PD-170 twin-turbo diesel engines, each with a capacity of 170 horsepower, Aksungur can reach a maximum speed of 250km/h, an operating range of 6,500km, a flight ceiling of nearly 12,200m, and has Can fly continuously for 50 hours.

UAV Aksungur made its first flight in 2019 and was assigned to the Turkish Navy in October 2021.
