AREQUIPA, Peru – The carrier Air China will begin operations in Cuba starting next May, official sources reported this Saturday, cited by the official media. Cubadebate.
The president of the Cuban Aviation Corporation SA, Joel Beltrán Archer Santos, made the announcement after a meeting with Chinese executives who participated in the International Transportation and Logistics Fair of Cuba.
Both the owner and Cuban directors of the sector had broad agreement with the delegation of the Asian country. The Corporation put the details on its social media account.
The Cuban Minister of Transportation, Eduardo Rodríguez, when inaugurating the II International Transportation and Logistics Fair (FITL 2024), pointed out that the event sought to boost the recovery of sustainable development of the sector. This Fair was held at the Pabexpo fairgrounds, in Havana, from April 3 to 5.
120 exhibiting entities, both Cuban and foreign, and more than 600 professionals from the sector attended FITL 2024.
The Cuban regime is trying by all possible means to recover the tourism sector, one of the main sources of foreign currency income for the country. With this objective, the authorities promote investment in the development of hotel infrastructure, while education, the housing program, and industry remain neglected.
According to an analysis offered by economist Pedro Monreal, investments in Cuba remain very uneven and a third is concentrated in activities mainly linked to tourism.
Although the specialist recognizes a decrease in investment in tourism, which had a record of 47.6% in 2020, it is still more than a third of national investment.
Health and Education maintain minimum investment values, but they are not the only areas of concern, since agricultural investment is also negligible.
