Aguila Saleh: Al-Dabaiba has no status for us in Parliament

Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, considered that things are ready, from his point of view, to solve the Libyan crisis through the formation of “one mini-government.”

Saleh said in an interview with “Libya Al-Mustaqbal” channel, “The solution to the Libyan crisis lies in holding parliamentary and presidential elections until power is unified,” stressing that “forming a single, mini-government also solves the crisis, by holding elections under this government.”

He added: “From my point of view, things are ready to end the Libyan crisis, which is the formation of a mini-university with specific tasks at a specific time.”

Regarding the initiative of the UN envoy Abdullah Batili for a five-party meeting of Libyan leaders, the Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives explained: “I have no objection to dialogue with everyone, but Mr. Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaiba has no standing for us. As Speaker of the House of Representatives, it is not right for me to sit with a person from whom confidence has been withdrawn.” As Prime Minister, we also see that in the presence of Al-Manfi, there is no need for Al-Dabaiba’s presence, considering Al-Manfi is the head of the executive authority.”

He added: “We told Batelli, if it is necessary for the governments to attend, then the prime minister appointed by the House of Representatives, the legitimate government, must attend, and we will listen to everyone’s opinions.”

Saleh considered that Batelli’s initiative: “represents a disruption of the process, as we cannot amend the constitutional declaration or the laws, unless the meeting is to take pledges on us that if a government is formed, we will all cooperate with it and recognize the results of the elections, and this is normal and acceptable.”
