“I apologize to my grandchildren for depriving them of their father. If I could go back in time, I wouldn’t do it.” This is what the 69-year-old who killed his 57-year-old son-in-law and his daughter’s husband outside his house in Agia Varvara is said to have said in his apology.
The perpetrator and his wife were taken to prison yesterday.
The 69-year-old, who is charged with felony manslaughter, as well as carrying and using a weapon, reportedly denied during his plea that he had planned the crime, claiming he was in a rage as the victim cursed him.
The wife of the perpetrator is accused of complicity in the homicide and in her apology she referred to the couple’s strained relationship with their son-in-law and what they were accusing him of.
“I got confused and took the rifle”
The 69-year-old also referred to the bad relations they had with his son-in-law and his daughter, which had led them to sue each other four times in one year.
“Tryfonas had a strange attitude towards children, he used to tame them. We also saw our grandchildren being afraid of their father,” he reportedly argued.
“On the day of the murder, I was drinking coffee on the balcony of the house, on the ground floor. My son-in-law and I got into a verbal fight as he entered the house. He said “I’m going to destroy you, I’ve melted you, you’re dead.” At the back of the house was my wife, arranging the shopping from the supermarket. I blurted out and went and got the rifle from the cupboard and shot him three times. The carbine is double barreled. I shot twice, reloaded and shot another,” claimed the 69-year-old in his apology.
“Hit him, throw him”
The victim’s wife and the perpetrator’s daughter heard over the phone everything that took place at the time of the murder.
“At that time she was talking to her husband on the phone when she heard her mother shouting ‘rix’ do ro’ do’. She heard the shots and immediately started screaming in fear and calling her husband’s name. At that moment she heard her father say “I ate you like a snipe”, says the couple’s advocate, Ioanna Kalobratsou.
Asked about what happened afterwards, the advocate described: “The woman hung up the phone after no one answered her and immediately her young son who was at home calls her. She urged him to take his sister and go up as high as possible, meaning to her policeman brother’s house.”
“The wife of the 57-year-old doctor and daughter of the perpetrator declared everything to the Security from the first moment,” added the lawyer.
