Fariha Islam Trishna surprised everyone by scoring a hat trick on her debut. He scored another hat-trick in his seventh match. The previous hat-trick was against Malaysia but this time it was against the number one team Australia. Fariha is now the proud owner of two hat-tricks as the third bowler in the world to achieve this hat-trick against tough opposition.
The left-handed pacer scored a hat-trick by dismissing Australia’s Alyssa Perry, Sophie Molyneux and Beth Mooney in the second T20I at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla Stadium. He took 4 wickets at the cost of 19 runs including 1 maiden in 4 overs. Despite personal success, the team could not win. Bangladesh lost the series by 58 runs one match earlier. After such a loss, Fariha’s success naturally faded.
Fariha was suffering from back pain for quite some time. Due to this, the previous matches did not come to the field. He became the third bowler in the world to take two hat-tricks in the second T20 against Australia on Tuesday. Despite such a performance, Fariha appeared at the press conference feeling upset, ‘I was hoping to try to do something good. I returned to the T20 team after a long time. Tried to do something good, give something to the team. Of course there is regret. The greater the achievement of the team, the greater the joy of one’s own achievement. This joy might have been better celebrated if the team had won. The team is first.’
Describing the timing of the injury, Fariha said, ‘It was a bit difficult. The wound was deep. It took a while to maintain everything from there and come back. I was going through my process. I will try to give the best if I get a chance, that was my wish. ‘
In recent times, Bangladesh is entering the field with only one pacer. Naturally, Maruf Akhtar is playing as an important member of the team. As a result, no one else is getting much of a chance. However, they entered the field with two pacers on Tuesday. Fariha joined the team with Marufa. The young left-handed pacer said that he does not see any competition with anyone, ‘There is no such thing as competition. Marufa is a world class bowler. He is the best in his place. Maybe it’s hard to think of alternatives. Because his swing is the best. I just wanted to try to do well. It depends on the team combination – how many pacers will play. We are trying to do better. Then maybe the number of pacers in the team will increase.
Despite a good start, Bangladesh lost by 103 runs till the end. Fariha said about the loss, ‘The beginning was good. I was hopeful that I could finish the match well. Finally tried.’
