After six years of legal disputes, Nicanor Parra’s children resolve inheritance distribution

Six years after the death of the poet Nicanor Parra, the heirs agreed on their father’s will. On Wednesday, May 22, his six children, Alberto, Catalina, Colombina, Juan de Dios, Ricardo and Francisca put an end to the judicial dispute over the inheritance of the Chilean poet, physicist, professor, and intellectual.

The lawyers of the parties, Andrés Cabello, representative of Alberto, Catalina Parra Troncoso, and Luis Valentín Ferrada, advisor to Francisca Parra Troncoso and Colombina Parra Tuca, Nicanor Parra Muñoz and Juan de Dios Parra Tuca, confirmed to the 8th civil courts, 12th and 17th that “the parties have reached a private transaction,” as reported Third.

Although they decided that the terms would not be public, the families would make a public statement in the coming days.

The agreement involves the will, the administration of assets, copyright and the role of Nicanor Parra’s children in the foundation that bears his name.

Furthermore, it establishes that the brothers Alberto and Catalina Parra Troncoso put an end to the attack to annul the legal personality of the Nicanor Foundation and, therefore, they abandoned the lawsuit initiated against the Municipality of Las Condes. Since the author, who died on January 23, 2018 in Santiago, sought to open a foundation with his name that would disseminate his works worldwide.

Origin of the conflict

On June 6, 2018, Alberto and Catalina Parra Troncoso filed a lawsuit to annul their father’s will, alleging that he did not have his full physical and mental faculties when writing his last will. Both oppose the anti-poet’s youngest daughter, Colombina Parra Tuca, benefiting from the legal maximum of the inheritance.

The assets of Nicanor Parra’s estate include assets valued at approximately $3.4 billion, five properties and copyrights. Colombina Parra’s older brothers question the management of the poet’s artifacts.

In 2019, the 24th Civil Court of Santiago revoked the role of executor of Colombina Parra and appointed a pro-indiviso administrator to manage the inheritance, José Alfredo Rojas.
