After Biden’s endorsement of Harris, Democrats are grouping together with a single goal: defeating Trump

WASHINGTON (apro). Following President Joe Biden’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris as his substitute to be the Democratic presidential candidate, party leaders are rallying around her to accomplish a single goal: defeat Donald Trump in the general election on Tuesday, November 5.

President Biden’s withdrawal from his re-election bid, announced this Sunday, July 21, was the turning point for the Democratic Party to shake off the label of almost certain defeat against Trump.

Biden’s announcement was politically well-calculated by the president, who made it three days after the Republican National Convention concluded in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where Trump was once again proclaimed the presidential candidate.

This news of Biden’s electoral withdrawal and the emergence of Harris as the favorite to win the Democratic nomination abruptly took the spotlight away from Trump and for now the vice president is at the center of the radar of the American and world media.

Following Biden’s endorsement of Harris, other legislative and Democratic Party leaders have come out and continue to come out to express their support for the vice president to be the candidate to face Trump in the elections on Tuesday, November 5.

Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and Hakim Jeffries, the three leaders of the Democratic Party in the federal Congress, were the first to support Harris and dozens of their coreligionists as well, awaiting the endorsement of former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.

Harris’s ripple effect was also felt in the coffers of campaign finance: in less than 24 hours since Biden endorsed her, the vice president’s campaign raised more than $81 million and the contributions continue to come in.

The Trump campaign was also prepared for the emergence of a new Democratic challenger, as it was like a time bomb that President Biden would announce his withdrawal from the race under so much pressure and exhortations to do so.

Trump’s campaign immediately launched attacks on television, radio and social media, discrediting Harris’s experience in government at the federal level, especially because they hold her directly responsible for the immigration problem on the border with Mexico.

Republican presidential campaign strategists had already prepared a dossier on Harris’s background as a federal senator and attorney general of the state of California, positions in which Trump’s people accuse her of judicial and legislative weakness and incompetence.

Trump blames Harris for the release of criminals, murderers and rapists in California when she was the state’s attorney general, and on Capitol Hill, the Republican candidate maintains that the now vice president never pushed through a worthwhile bill.

The media alike turned the page and began closely following Harris minutes after Biden announced his withdrawal as a presidential candidate, and even the White House agenda highlighted the vice president’s public events.

At 59, Harris is bringing more energy and youth to the Democratic Party’s aspirations than Biden, at 81, meant to the electoral interests, especially after his weak performance in the debate with Trump on June 27.

The vice president’s top priority on the agenda is first to win the Democratic presidential nomination, which would be officially awarded to her at her party’s National Convention, which will take place from August 19 to 22 in Chicago, Illinois.

Second, although this could equally be announced at the Convention, Harris would have to choose who would be her running mate to challenge JD Vance, the Republican standard-bearer and Trump’s running mate, for the vice presidency.

Finally, Harris must begin preparing, if she has no obstacles in her path to winning the Democratic nomination, to confront Trump in the second presidential debate already scheduled for September 10, even if the date is changed and another debate is organized.

Kamala Harris, a lawyer by profession and of African-American and Indian origin, is on track to become the second woman to be the Democratic candidate for the presidency of the United States, the first being Hillary Clinton, whom Trump defeated in the November 2016 elections.
