African Swimming dominates sports week

The 16th edition of the African Swimming Championship, for both sexes, marked the sports week, an event won twice by Egypt in pure water (pool) and open water (sea).

The unprecedented event in Angola took place from April 30 until this Sunday (5) with Egypt winning 47 medals, 15 gold, 19 silver and 13 bronze in the men’s and women’s categories.

In second place was South Africa, dethroned champion, with 38 medals, of which 13 gold, 14 silver and 11 bronze.

Hosts Angola came in eighth place, with a silver medal, won by Lia Lima.

On the sidelines of the event, the Congress of the African Confederation was held, which elected Senegalese Mohamed Diop as leader, replacing South African Sam Ram Samy, who led the organization for twelve years.

The president of the Angolan Swimming Federation, Joaquim Santos, is part of the list of members of the African institution’s Bureau, at a time when Angola applied to host the junior World Championship in 2005.

At the level of the National Football Championship “Girabola2023-24”, Sagrada Esperança drew 2-2 with Sporting de Cabinda, adding 50 points in the lead, the same as Petro de Luanda, second placed, thanks to the 1-0 victory , against Interclube.

The day also saw a goalless draw between Williete and 1º de Agosto, at the Ombaka stadium, in the city of Benguela.

In the final of the National Basketball Championship, in “play-offs”, the best of five games, the interclube tied the tie by beating Petro de Luanda today, by 97-92, after having lost in the initial confrontation, by 80- 92, challenges taking place in the Cidadela pavilion.
