Pianist Radhia El Bakkali gave a concert on Saturday in Tangier, during which she presented a group of classical musical works, in addition to her original compositions, as part of the activities of the second edition of “African Summer”, which the “Riad Sultan” Theater announced will be scheduled during the month of July in order to “shed light on the cultural and artistic wealth of the African continent.”
The organizers explained, in a statement received by Hespress, that “this concert, which was attended by a large audience, allowed the discovery of pieces by Chopin, Beethoven, Vivaldi and other pianists, through the unique talent of Radhia El Bakkali, who took her audience on an unforgettable musical journey to the tunes of the piano.”
The statement indicated that “this edition of “African Summer” will witness the participation of the Association of Senegalese Artists Residing in Morocco, which will contribute with three concerts, a three-day exhibition, a parade through the alleys of the old city, workshops, in addition to a chat about African culture.”
He added that “the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts and Cultural Animation will participate with a theatrical production entitled “Hot Blood” presented by fourth-year students,” noting that “pianist” Radhia El Bakkali will add a musical dimension through a piano concert entitled “One Summer Night.”
During the period from July 11 to 13, the public will have an appointment with “traditional and contemporary arts of the Senegalese people in an inspiring and interactive environment presented by great artists who chose to settle in Morocco. The alleys of the old city will also have an appointment with a show celebrating diversity and unity through the antiquity of African art and its rhythms,” the statement added.
Regarding the details of the mentioned period, the statement indicated that a show will be organized on the evening of Thursday, July 11, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and a percussion workshop on the same day from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, while on Friday, July 12, there will be a “Children’s Music Awareness Workshop” from noon to 2:00 pm, and a “Kora Workshop” on the evening of the same day from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
As for Saturday, July 13, the organizers highlighted that a dance workshop will be held from noon to 2 p.m., and a “chat on African culture” will be held that same evening starting at 8 p.m., while the public will have the opportunity to discover an exhibition that highlights the visual art created by the artists and reveals the depth of contemporary African creativity.
The Riadh Sultan Theater stated that it “will organize three concerts to enable its loyal audience to enjoy the magical rhythm of the concerts, where it mixes traditional Senegalese music with contemporary vocal elements,” noting that it concerns “an African cocktail of contemporary dance,” “the Grio Night,” and “the Gnawa Fusion Night.”
The same statement stated that “fourth-year students at the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts and Cultural Animation will present, on July 15, an influential and exciting theatrical work entitled “Hot Blood” by the Nigerian writer and Nobel Prize winner Wole Soyinka, directed by the Ivorian Vargas Asande, with the aim of creating an African cultural mix and introducing the institute’s students to professional life.”
The statement explained that “this work aims to invite the public to rediscover the journey of recognizing the other, questioning traditions, accepting and building differences,” adding that “these initiatives demonstrate a strong commitment to promoting cultural diversity and African art through different forms of expression. It is an event not to be missed for those interested in Africa’s cultural richness.”
On July 18, the Riad Sultan Theater stated that “the public will have the opportunity to attend the signing ceremony of the poet Mukhlis Al Saghir’s book entitled “The Infested Land,” which will be presented by the critic Najib Al Aoufi, with poetry readings accompanied by the talented Ahmed Allah Rouicha,” noting that at the end of the season, “it will present, in cooperation with the Foundation of the Mediterranean Festival of Amazigh Culture in Tangier, two events within the eighteenth edition of the Thoiza Festival, which will be held from July 25 to 28 in Tangier.”
The statement also stated that on July 25, the audience will have a date with “a unique voice coming from the peaks of Ibn Tayeb in the Driouch region, Iman Tifiour, the singer with the golden voice who has pumped new blood into the veins of the national music scene, and returns to the Thoiza Festival, just as a little girl returns to her mother’s arms.”
He pointed out that “the Thoiza Festival has maintained, since the launch of its first sessions, a fixed section, which seeks to approach the literary specificity of the narrative and novelistic experience of the writer Mohamed Choukri, framed by critics and researchers from Morocco and the Levant. The 18th session of the festival this year has chosen Choukri’s “immoral” theme, in implementation of the central slogan of this session “Nations are only morals”, as this meeting will be held on July 26 with the participation of Shams Al-Doha Al-Baraki, Salma Al-Ghazawi, Abdullah Ibrahim, Ayman Al-Atoum, and the management of Abdel Latif Benyahia. The meeting will also include a moment of honoring the novelist Mohamed Ezzedine Tazi.”
