The Confederation of African Football has set next July 4 as the date for drawing the draw for the qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations “Morocco 2025”, at the “Super Sport” studios in Johannesburg, at 12:30 noon GMT.
48 teams, including the four winning teams in the preliminary round, will be divided into 12 groups of four teams.
Côte d’Ivoire, the holder of the African title, tops the list of teams confirmed to participate in the draw, along with Morocco, the organizing country, Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo, Republic of. Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eswatini, and Ethiopia.
The draw will also include Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Mali, Malawi, Mauritania, Mozambique, and Namibia.
Other participating countries are Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sao Tome, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
The qualifying qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations are scheduled to begin in September 2024, while only 23 teams will qualify for the CAN finals, in addition to Morocco, the host country.
An official source revealed to Hesport that the date of the finals of the 35th edition of the African Cup of Nations scheduled in Morocco will be between December 2025 and January 2026, awaiting the official announcement of the exact dates at the meetings of the Executive Office of the Confederation of African Football in the coming weeks.
