Afforestation Works Begin After the Giant Fire in Bolu

Work has begun to reforest the damaged areas in Göynük, where the biggest fire in Bolu’s history took place.

The fire, which broke out in a forest area in the Bekirfakılar village of Göynük district on August 15 at noon, quickly grew and spread to a wide area due to the wind. Due to the fire, 490 people in the Yeniköy, Çaylak, Bekirfakılar and Umurlar villages were evacuated as a precaution and placed with their relatives. Numerous support teams, primarily from Düzce, Kocaeli and Sakarya, were dispatched to the fire extinguishing efforts of the teams in Bolu. The 4 suspects who were detained in connection with the fire, which was reported to have originated from stubble, were referred to the courthouse on August 17. Of the suspects, AK and EK were arrested for the crime of “causing a forest fire by negligence”, while the other 2 suspects were released on condition of judicial control. The fire was brought under control on August 18 after 72 hours of work.

The wounds are healing

Work has begun to afforested the burned areas. It is aimed to complete a total of 40 kilometers of new roads and 48 kilometers of major repair programs as soon as possible and to start afforestation work in the burned forest area. It was stated that the new road survey studies carried out in the Dedeler and Alançayı Forest Management Directorates have been largely completed, major repair work is ongoing and the work is being done with the institution’s construction equipment. – BOLU
