Advice on getting GI certificate of own design gold jewellery – 2024-02-10 13:55:37

‘Our traditional gold jewelery is an important part of our culture. These are isolated and scattered, to be brought together through coordination requires the Swarnalankar Institute. Also, to preserve the tradition, gold ornaments of own design should be reserved and GI certificate should be taken with those designs.’

The speakers said these things at the seminar titled ‘Our Ornaments Our Heritage’ on the occasion of Bajus Jewelery Summit-2024 at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) Navratri Hall on Thursday (February 8).

They said that currently the gold sector is the safest place to invest in the country. Investing in the jewelery industry means investing in the future. Day by day investment in this industry is increasing. So women should also be involved in this industry. In the future our country will be a big place of gold. From where gold ornaments will be exported.

Speakers also said that some legal or policy changes should be made in order to export gold jewelery produced in Bangladesh abroad. The government will take steps in this regard. At the same time, if the government reduces the VAT-tax in this industry, then the revenue of the government will also increase.

Earlier, Dhaka University Faculty of Fine Arts Professor Emeritus painter Rafiqun Nabi, UNESCO Artist for Peace and world renowned fashion designer Bibi Russell inaugurated the three-day fair by cutting the ribbon and opening the three-day fair with the guests including Bashundhara Group Managing Director and Bangladesh Jewelers Association (BAJUS) President Sayem Sobhan Anvir.

Rafiqun Nabi said, gold has more relationship with women. The materials of our culture are scattered in isolation and must be brought together through coordination. As we move away from tradition, other countries are taking that opportunity. Today we are talking about gold jewelry institute. If we can do this it will be possible to preserve our own culture which is being lost to the western culture. Then our heritage will be preserved.

He said, our country will be a big place of gold. From where gold ornaments will be exported. An institute is needed for that. Fine arts department of Dhaka University has many works on this art. If there is an institute then everyone can go there. But more emphasis should be placed on design. Ornamentation is essentially design.

World-renowned fashion designer Bibi Russell said, “My job is to see as many crafts as there are.” Each district of the country has different designs of jewellery. They should be brought up. I am saving the weaving industry of the country by selling jewellery. Gold is not only a woman’s wealth, but a family’s wealth. As a designer I will talk about it, we have to highlight what we have. There will be many competitors. We have some designs of our own that need to be saved. I can get GI certificate with all those designs.

Meher Afroz Chumki said, I came to such a fair for the first time. I am neither a businessman nor a good shopper. Still I buy some gold ornaments every year. In ancient times, boys used to wear more jewelry. Investing in jewelery means investing in the future. The progress made in the garment sector is far ahead of the neighboring countries. So why should I stay behind?

He said, our women now go abroad and buy gold ornaments. Trafficking is happening again. You have to pay attention to that. Not only women but also men now wear beautiful jewelry. Acceptance of gold will increase later. Designs should be made that are within everyone’s reach.

Former Member of Parliament Jinnatul Bakiya said that women should be trained and made skilled goldsmiths. Women understand women’s work better. So women should be involved in this work. Even though the price of gold has increased, the demand has not decreased. The price of gold is increasing day by day. So there is no loss if you buy gold. There is no loss in buying gold and land. It is the property of old age.

Mumtaz Begum said, for this, the campaign space should be increased. Let us work. Learn more about using old jewelry.

Badal Chandra Roy, general secretary of Bajus, said that investment in gold is actually a tough thing. Because when I did not come into the business, the price of gold was 145 rupees. Now the price of that gold stands at more than one lakh rupees. The price of gold will never decrease but will increase. Gold is a metal that creates bonds between people. Immune works on it. Gold is the only dangerous companion. You can get money with gold even at 2 am. Which cannot be obtained from the bank.

He said, our main point is how we can develop this industry. The platform we have been able to build in the last three years under the leadership of our President Saim Sobhan Anveer deserves praise. Earlier we could not create such a platform. However, if the government cooperates, I want to take it to the export stage.

Badal Chandra said that the leather and garment industries are exporting. Although the gold industry is an old industry, we are still lagging behind. We have to get out of here. Today the Prime Minister is dreaming of Smart Bangladesh. We can also take this industry to a smart industry under the leadership of Bajus President Saim Sobhan Anvi. And if the government reduces the VAT-tax in this industry, it will be beneficial. The government thinks doing so will reduce revenue. However, I can emphatically say that the government’s revenue will increase.
