The presidential spokesperson, Manuel Adorni, rejected the option of transferring the resources destined for salaries and educational projects pending payment by the Nation to the provinces. During the usual press conference, he stated that the Government does not contemplate transferring the National Teacher Incentive Fund, which puts the beginning of school activities at risk.

“In principle the Nation is not going to transfer it because it is a fund that does not exist today, it does not exist,” he stressed despite the complaints of the governors and teachers unions.

The official stated that salaries “depend on the governors”, which is why he specified that each province “is free to agree on the salary they want.” “Teachers in Argentina depend on the provinces and the City, they are free to agree.” the salary they want or consider fair to start classes,” he said.

In addition, he also expressed that the Government “always promotes that school days are observed and that all Argentines can do so, regardless of the parity or the salary discussion, which is relevant, but must be done with the provinces.”

These statements emerged hours after the press conference offered by the Confederation of Education Workers (CTERA), in which they warned that the Executive has not yet convened the national teacher union and demanded “compliance with the Educational Financing Law and to send economic resources to the provinces for the FONID, the Salary Inequalities Compensation Fund and school cafeterias.”

Adorni also mentioned the decline in the purchasing power of salaries in general terms, and revealed that the Government is fighting inflation to restore the value of salaries. “Later, we always invited, proposed and defended free joint ventures. Argentina’s problem is deeper than a mere salary increase,” he concluded.

Without a raise or incentive for teachers, their income will be lower than last year

The General Secretary of CTERA, Sonia Alessospecified that the beginning of classes in different provinces is subject to the national government transferring the funds corresponding to the teaching incentive, warning that, otherwise, they will face “an impossible context to start” the school year.

He stressed that “if they do not call joint meetings or send funds, we will charge less than last year,” adding that in this situation “it is impossible for classes to start,” scheduled for the end of February and beginning of March, depending on each region.

In relation to the salary situation of education workers, Alesso explained that “this month the provinces were able to cover the missing percentage of the action with the incentive fund, but next month it will be almost impossible, so the teacher will charge less.”
