The Rawalpindi Police says that it and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) have foiled the attack on Adiala Jail in a joint operation.
Rawalpindi Police Chief Syed Khalid Hamdani said in a statement that ‘Adiala Jail was saved from major destruction, three terrorists were arrested with heavy weapons and ammunition.’
Rawalpindi Police said in a statement on social media website X that ‘the terrorists belong to Afghanistan and the three terrorists have been shifted to a safe place for interrogation.’
According to the police statement, ‘A map of Adiala Jail, hand grenades, and IEDs (Improvised Explosives) and automatic weapons were also recovered from the terrorists.’
Police and other law enforcement agencies are conducting a search operation in and around Adiala Jail.

According to reports, there are currently more than seven thousand prisoners in the central Adiala jail of the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, including important personalities.
Former Prime Minister Imran Khan, former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood and former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi are among the prisoners in Adiala Jail.
On November 7 last year, a suspicious bag was reported near gate number five of Adiala Jail in Gorakhpur, a suburb of Rawalpindi, which later disabled the bomb disposal squad.
According to the bomb disposal squad, a bomb containing 1200 grams of explosives was found in a bag, which was kept at a distance of 100 meters from gate number five, near Dhaka Suite Gorakhpur.
