ADB invests 4 million dollars in the transport sector in Angola

O African Development Bank (ADB), financeor cabout 4 million US dollars, destineds to the National Master Plan for the Transport Sector, revealed this Monday (26)in Luanda, the bank’s resident representative in Angola, Joseph Martial Ribeiro.

The National Master Plan for the transport sector and preliminary feasibility studies for the railway connection between the CFB and Zambia are documents being prepared, to serve as guidelines for projects that could amount to 500 million dollars over the next 20 years.

“The plan is a governance instrument for the next 20 years, after the study we will have five priority projects, which will be defined and then we will study with the Government and other partners what the financing possibilities are”, he said.

According to the person in charge, who was speaking at the workshop to present the aforementioned plan, the ADB is evaluating all projects in the sector, starting with road, rail, cabotage, river and air, to allow the country to have all the necessary resources to diversify the economy, through the movement of people and goods.

Currently, the continental financial institution is carrying out data updates, due to economic developments, in order to make a projection of the population, business environment and needs, for better investment planning.

Since 1980, ADB has invested around 2.1 billion dollars in 44 different projects, currently focusing on the agriculture, transport and energy sectors.

The workshop on updating the National Master Plan for the Transport Sector in Angola, held at the Amphitheater of the Instituto Superior de Gestão, Logística e Transportes (ISGEST) analyzed the preliminary study of the feasibility of the railway connection between the Benguela Railway and to Zambia.

The meeting aimed to present the integrated transport plan, with a time horizon of 20 years for its implementation, in which all modes of transport are considered and the role of the sector in the modernization and diversification of the national economy is defined.
