Actor Gérard Depardieu arrested for alleged assault

Gérard Depardieu, the French actor, has faced previous accusations of sexual assault, being singled out by around fifteen women for inappropriate sexual behavior. Among the accusers is the journalist and writer Spanish Ruth Asks, who accuses him of alleged rape in 1995.

These recent accusations are added to a series of previous complaints. In December 2020, Depardieu was formally accused of sexual assault against the actress Charlotte Arnouldwho had reported two episodes of rape occurred in August 2018 at the actor’s Paris residence.

At the end of December of the same year, the judicial system closed the actress’ complaint Helene Darraswho had accused him of sexual assault during a filming in 2007because the facts had already prescribed.

In the midst of this situation, the Spanish journalist and author Ruth Baza filed a complaint in Spain against the actor for alleged rape, related to incidents that supposedly occurred in Paris in 1995.

Also, according to Mediapart reports, it is alleged that Depardieu would have played “breasts and buttocks» from another woman during the filming of a film directed by Jean Becker. The actress Anouk Grinberg, who worked on the film, stated in a media interview that the director «was perfectly aware that two women had been seriously assaulted«.

The actor has categorically rejected all accusations against him. These accusations have caused intense debate cultural in France, dividing the film community and pitting feminist groups with the actor’s supporters.
