This Saturday, the Action Committee for Palestine participated together with the Tranpósito Collective in the LGBT+ Pride March in Torreón.
The group was made up of about 20 people, including activists in favor of Palestine and the Collective that seeks to give visibility to the trans community in La Laguna. Together they accompanied the March from its beginning on Galeana Street, between Allende and Matamoros and its journey through the Center of Torreón, until its return to the Plaza Mayor.
Attendees were there from 5:00 p.m. sharing flyers and posting posters on the walls around the Plaza Mayor with messages in support of Palestine and the trans community.
One of the flyers shared during the march in Torreón, He called on the LGBTIQ+ community not to be oblivious to the genocide and ethnic cleansing in Palestine.
“The history of our community has been marked with persecution, repression and oppression. May these bonds of solidarity lead us to march to advance our rights while at the same time leading us to raise our voices against the genocide in Palestine.”
Context of a genocide
The Israeli offensive against the Gaza Strip that began last October has claimed the lives of more than 37,000 Palestinians and left more than 86,000 injured, the majority – 70% – women and children, according to Health authorities. Last March, the American newspaper The Washington Post published a report estimating that there are thousands of missing people in the rubble of buildings destroyed by Israeli bombings.
Between October and February alone, the International Committee of the Red Cross received more than 5,000 reports of missing Palestinians in Gaza.
Faced with the war actions, South Africa went before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) of the United Nations in December 2023, accusing Israel of carrying out genocide against the Palestinians.
At that time, there was a record of 23 thousand Palestinians killed by the Israeli Army, 60 thousand wounded, hundreds of thousands displaced and more than a million suffering from hunger, according to the UN published last January.
