On April 4, the People’s Court of Nam Tu Liem District (Hanoi City) opened a first instance trial of 53 defendants in an online gambling ring with a total transaction amount of nearly 1,200 billion VND.
The jury interrogated defendant Nguyen Minh Thanh (the leader) about the act of organizing gambling. The main content focused on how much defendant Thanh benefited from operating this ring.
According to the prosecutor’s office, to participate in the game, players deposit money to buy SOC through the following forms: Top up telecommunications cards, top up the 4,337 Momo e-wallet system or bank transfer through the intermediary agent system. that Nghia (a link in the chain) manages.
From April 1 to August 18, 2021, the total amount of money players have deposited into the game via Momo e-wallet, phone scratch cards, Viettel Pay, and agent transfer is more than 1,184 billion VND.
In particular, the investigation agency proved that the amount of money loaded into the game from the telecommunications card loading portal was more than 200 billion VND. Thanh assigned Nguyen Xuan Truong to load these cards into the SIM card for 0 VND and then gave it to Do Duc Anh to sell to the market, earning 70%, equivalent to more than 140 billion VND.
In addition, the total amount of money withdrawn through MBBank ATMs was 26.5 billion VND. “The total amount of money benefited by gambling organizers is 167,193,588,000 coins.g”, the Procuracy stated.
Thanh divided Nguyen Tuan Nghia 30 billion VND, Vu Tien Duy and Bui Nhat Anh group 30 billion VND… Thanh alone benefited more than 96 billion VND. With the money he benefited from organizing gambling, Thanh bought a house, a car, and gold.
However, at the trial, Thanh changed his testimony, only admitting to benefiting 40 billion VND.
In court, the representative of the Procuracy listed the expenses for the accomplices as above.
“So according to the defendant, minus the above distributions, how much is left of the 167 billion VND that the defendant said only benefits 40 billion VND?” The Procuracy questioned.
Thanh 3 times said that he had to spend on other card game activities.
Responding to the Procuracy, the chairman said that defendant Thanh admitted a profit of more than 167 billion VND according to the charges. In court, other defendants in the crime group “Organizing gambling” were also confronted about the amount of money Thanh distributed.
The defendant claimed to have given Nghia 30 billion VND, but this person is on the run, the investigation agency withdrew the matter later so it has not been determined. From there, the chairman said that the defendant must be responsible for this benefit amount of 30 billion VND. Later, when Nghia is arrested, if it is proven that this person received 30 billion VND, the defendant has the right to claim it back.
