Accused of anti-Semitism, an LFI deputy targeted by “serious malicious acts” in his home

David Guiraud sparked controversy after posting a video on

David Guiraud denounces “brutal and dishonest attacks”, aimed “at delegitimizing all those who oppose Israeli policy”. In a press release published on Wednesday evening, January 3, on X, the rebel deputy specifies that his “private home was targeted by serious malicious acts”.

“For several months I have noticed the desire to destroy those who oppose the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians,” he complains.

Particularly critical of the Jewish state at war with Hamas, the elected official from the North has been accused of anti-Semitism since the beginning of the week. In question: a tweet, in response to another mentioning a complaint by the French Jewish Observatory against him for “apologizing for terrorism.”

“Sincere”

David Guiraud’s answer: a video referring to the celestial dragons from the One Piece manga. These characters, represented as a bourgeois elite who free themselves from all rules, have become an expression used by some users on social networks to hold an anti-Semitic speech while circumventing moderation tools.

This is a “dog whistle” strategy aimed at deviating an expression from its original meaning to appeal to a handful of people, without fueling the suspicions of the majority.

So as not to “offend anyone”, David Guiraud then deleted his tweet, although he disputed the accusations of anti-Semitism.

In his press release this Wednesday, he defines himself as “sincere” about the war in the Middle East and distinguishes himself from his “detractors”, whom he castigates indiscriminately: “cynicism”, “indecent navel gazing”, “colonial mentality”, as well as the “double standards that disgust so many compatriots”.

“No attack will extinguish my voice”

The rebel states that “the brutal attacks” to which he is subjected do not “prevent him from being able to do so [s]and question him when necessary.

“Have I always been smart in my answers? It’s so hard to find accuracy when you see pictures of dead children all day,” he wrote.

David Guiraud promises, however, that “no attack, public or private, will go away [s]a voice” in the face of the “monstrous carnage perpetrated by the Israeli army”.

Already last November the parliamentarian found himself at the center of a controversy. He has been accused of relativizing the October 7 Hamas attacks in Israel, appearing to draw a parallel with the Sabra and Shatila massacres in Lebanon in 1982, for which he had erroneously attributed direct responsibility to the Jewish state.

Israel vowed to “destroy” Hamas after the unprecedented attack carried out by the Palestinian Islamic movement, which left around 1,140 dead in Israel, most of them civilians, according to an AFP tally based on official Israeli data. The commandos had also taken about 250 people hostage, more than 100 of whom were released in late November during a week-long truce.

The ongoing war in Gaza after this attack has cost the lives of 22,313 people, mostly women, adolescents and children, or almost 1% of the population of this territory of 2.4 million inhabitants, according to the latest assessment by Hamas. a movement classified as “terrorist” by the United States, Israel and the European Union.
