A total of 26 people died and 2,729 others were injured, 109 of them seriously, in 2,052 accidents in urban areas during the week of December 25 to 31, 2023, the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN) said on Tuesday.
These accidents are mainly due to the inattention of motorists, failure to respect priority, excessive speed, inattention of pedestrians, failure to respect the safety distance, changing direction without a use signal, failure to observe the stop sign , failure to control vehicles, unauthorized change of direction, failure to respect the red light, driving in the left lane, driving while intoxicated, driving in the prohibited direction and defective overtaking, the DGSN explained in a press release.
As regards the control and repression of traffic violations, the security services issued 46,057 fines and drew up 8,119 reports presented to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, while 37,938 transactional fines were recovered.
The sums collected for these fines reached 8,343,125 dirhams, adds the statement which denounces the municipal seizure of 4,424 vehicles, the seizure of 8,119 documents and the withdrawal from circulation of 217 vehicles.
