Academic alerts due to invasion of insecticide-resistant cockroaches

MEXICO CITY (apro).- The increase in temperatures, the extension of the hot months and the excessive use of insecticides benefit the proliferation of cockroaches. Experts warn that Spain could have an invasion of these insects during the summer.

Cockroaches contain 40 bacteria in their organism, which can cause death in humans and animals, academic Enrique Mariño Pedraza. These insects can transmit diseases such as salmonellosis, infectious hepatitis, dysentery, bubonic plague, among others.

Climate change has increased the planet’s temperatures in recent years, this May alone has been the warmest in the world since records have been recorded, likewise, each year there are more hot months, this benefits the proliferation of cockroaches, as their life cycle accelerates, as warned by the National Association of Environmental Health Companies (ANECPLA) of Spain.

Furthermore, the widespread use of biocides to control insects has generated random genetic mutations, causing cockroaches to be resistant to these products.

The ANECPLA warned that there could be significant cockroach infestations, which is why they called for prevention actions to mitigate the increase in the number of these creatures.

“It is essential to carry out a specific diagnosis of the specific case first. Its results are what will determine whether one treatment or another is applied and, depending on the results that are observed, make the changes that are considered necessary,” explained Jorge Galván, general director of ANECPLA.

To prevent the presence of cockroaches it is recommended:

Maintain cleanliness and avoid leaving food remains and residue.

Avoid any water leaks and other moisture areas.
