ABHEEJIT BHATTACHARYA:Abhijeet Bhattacharya is known for giving Hindi music lovers some of the most memorable romantic tracks. From Chaand Taare to Tum Dil Ki Dhadak, his songs still hold the same magical effect as they did years ago.
However, it has been a while since he sang for a Bollywood film. Recently, during an exclusive podcast EXCLUSIVE BROADCAST with Pinkvilla, the melodious singer opened up about the politics in the music industry, which has not allowed him to work often lately.
Abhijeet Bhattacharya on not getting proper opportunities to sing in films in the last few years
During a candid chat with Pinkvilla, when Abhijeet Bhattacharya was asked if he has ever been criticised in a way that made him feel humiliated but also inspired, the singer recalled being a victim of industry politics. He said, “Mere saath bahut hua hai… jisa hota tha ki, music director ko jaise hi laga ke Shah Rukh Khan ki picture mil gayi… no matter how close that music director was to me, it seemed like his only motive was that I will not sing for Abhijeet.” Explaining his point further, the singer said, “When I got the award, and no film was a huge blockbuster like Yes Boss, the song was also not a blockbuster, but at that time there was a non-blockbuster in between all the blockbusters, Border, Pardes, Dil To Pagal Hai. And here I got it. Anyone could have got it, it is not that only I had to get it… commendable. And so many music directors felt that…after that, they tell me that they will not make me sing the song. Anyone could have got the award. After that, many music directors openly told me that they will not give me their song.”
He said that music directors think that they have created the song and they are its owners. “You are a goldsmith. You will get diamonds, silver and gold. You are a goldsmith, you can make designs, you are not the diamond, you are not the gold, you are not the silver, you are not the iron, you will have to make it.” He said that those music directors are still close to him.
