
The material and human damage caused by the passage of bad weather has continued to increase in the regions most affected. Alvaro destroyed 60% of infrastructure in Morombe district.
The toll from severe tropical storm Alvaro continues to rise. The number of deaths stands at nine, including four in Beroroha, three in Manakara, one in Vohipeno and another in Manja. The report from the National Bureau of Risk and Disaster Management (BNGRC) also shows 25,837 disaster victims, or 5,900 households, and 9,528 displaced people, or 2,003 households. The BNGRC has also set up 36 accommodation sites to accommodate them. Concerning material damage, 4,943 huts were flooded, 426 damaged and 241 destroyed. For school infrastructure, 59 rooms are completely defaced and four partially destroyed. Note that five regions are affected including Atsimo-Andrefana, Matsiatra Ambony, Menabe, Fitovinany and Ihorombe.
Descent. The Morombe district was strongly impacted by Alvaro. The Director General of the BNGRC, General Elack Olivier Andriankaja, visited Morombe to assess the damage. 3,120 hectares of rice fields were flooded. 60% of infrastructure is also destroyed, including administrative offices and private homes. During this descent, he carried out an overview with the World Food Program (WFP). They were able to speak with the victims and on the occasion handed over food consisting of a ton of rice, 100 liters of oil, mosquito nets as well as equipment useful in daily life. Motor pumps were also sent to Morombe, in addition to those already there after the passage of Cyclone Freddy. A major clean-up of the city has been organized since yesterday and will continue for the next four days.
