A two-day peace conference on the Ukrainian crisis is starting in Switzerland, in which Armenia also participates at the level of the Secretary of the Security Council. Of course, this is not the first time that Armenia participates in peace conferences on the Ukrainian crisis. Yerevan was present at the conferences held in Copenhagen and held in Malta.
However, the Swiss has received a completely different international entourage, at least at the informational level. In particular, we are talking about the fact that before the conference to be held in Switzerland, a mentality was formed, including with the efforts of the organizers, that the conference can prepare a resolution to stop the war, which will actually be presented to Russia. Switzerland has stated that it expects that it will be possible to hold a mutually acceptable conference for Russia and Ukraine.
It is stated that Moscow will not participate and does not accept the Swiss conference. However, it is not only Moscow. Several other key countries, including China, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Brazil, refused to participate in the Swiss conference. China declares that a conference that is mutually accepted by both Ukraine and Russia will be acceptable. After the Swiss conference, Moscow announced its conditions for stopping the war. They were voiced by Putin himself, saying that the war will be stopped immediately if the Ukrainian army withdraws from all regions of Donbass, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia.
As it is known, Russia has occupied a part of them and declared those regions with their so-called administrative borders as the territory of the Russian Federation. Putin demands to withdraw from Ukraine completely, and also to announce his withdrawal from NATO membership. Naturally, that option is not accepted by Kiev and neither are Western countries. By the way, it is noteworthy that Putin made his proposal public not only before the Swiss conference, but perhaps before the Italian Assembly of the G7. By and large, the G7 meeting was perhaps more significant than the conference that begins today.
Perhaps the most important discussions regarding the further unfolding of Ukrainian events took place at the Assembly of Seven. Perhaps there will be rather illustrative discussions in Switzerland, and the Euro-Atlantic wing will return to key issues perhaps already in Washington, during the NATO summit to be held in July.
