“I imagined it was a stone, something like that. I heard a noise like an explosion, but inside my head. Then I look ahead and everyone doesn’t understand anything and I go ‘oh oh oh’. A doctor, who was with the group of tourists, stopped the bleeding, applied ice and the young people went to Búzios for New Year’s Eve.

“The 2nd [de janeiro] I return to Juiz de Fora, without hearing anything. On the 3rd I worked in the morning, in the afternoon I went to Rio de Janeiro on a trip to sort out some things. On the 4th I discovered what had really happened because in the afternoon I went for a nap and I woke up with my arm feeling a little silly, my hand moving in a strange way, I felt my fingers moving, but I didn’t have the necessary courage and confidence. to collect something.

After tests at a private hospital in Juiz de Fora, the bullet in the young man’s head was identified and surgery was required. He spent two days in the unit’s Intensive Treatment Center (CTI) and another day in the room.

“The doctor came to us and explained the situation, that Mateus would have to undergo surgery to remove the bullet and that he would take risks, even if small,” explained Luciana Facio, the student’s mother.

“There was concern about hemorrhages, brain fluid leaks, meningitis and even death. Thank God everything was resolved, in a gratifying way. The doctors and nurses who saw Mateus there almost couldn’t believe it. That a person spends four days with a bullet in the head and feels nothing is inexplicable. Born again. We can celebrate Matteo’s birth twice.”

The student’s last 20 days have given him the confidence to change his studies. The young man, who had previously studied administration, interrupted his studies, enrolled in medicine and, if before he had doubts, now he says he is certain of his decision:

“In December last year I decided to change course. I enrolled in medical school and left administration. It was something I’d wanted for a long time, but never had the courage to do. I’m going to make a change in my life, in my career, which is interesting to me. I didn’t know that everything was going to happen and, in the hospital, during the time I was hospitalized, I saw that this was what I really wanted for my life,” she says.
