Sport has the enormous power to unite generations and create bonds. It’s about cultivating it more than ever for the new year.

At the end of December is the season of family meals. The ones we love or hate, depending on the layout of the tables and Uncle Roger’s jokes. Between the pear and the cheese comes the time for unlikely discussions.
Here we talk about social issues, the glasses clash as loudly as the ideas and the mother tries to reconcile the points of view of the exhibitors aged between 14 and 92. There are few places in our societies where the clash between generations is as frontal as during family celebrations.
And even if what emerges are not just philosophical peaks, or that misunderstanding is synonymous with chaos, it is here that the links are intertwined, that the layers are confused.
Where else can you find such disparate socio-cultural-affective-professional profiles, forced to coexist for a few hours, or even to find common affinities? Among the audience of the “Stars 80” tour, perhaps. But otherwise, more than anywhere else, in sport.

From the locker room to the car park, from the pitch to the grandstand, crazy young people rub shoulders with old ones, defying any logic of affinity other than that of common passion. In Switzerland there are thousands of clubs, associations and associations that cultivate commonalities rather than divergent opinions.
Woolen knitwear or Lycra tracksuit, it doesn’t matter, the important thing is that these people talk to each other, sometimes they get angry, but above all they try to understand each other. Beyond physical activity, an essential mix for our social life is at work here.
Sport is then a community lubricant, a school of coexistence, a place of exchange and sharing. Where pride reveals vulnerabilities, where boasting warms modesty, nuances find their way and human beings find themselves for what they are: other human beings.
At 14 as at 92 we shout, of course, but together, like at the “Stars 80” concerts. A good reason to borrow our resolution for 2024 from the French song. As François Valéry said, let’s not wait for death to find our talent, let’s love ourselves alive.
