Children Rabeya and Rokeya are healthy after head separation surgery at Dhaka Combined Military Hospital (CMH). This information was given in a press conference at CMH on Sunday (April 28).

Recently, the Hungarian medical team and the Minister of Health came to CMH for their post-surgery observation. Samant Lal Sen. This team of doctors expressed satisfaction with the ongoing treatment system.

Health Minister Dr. was present as the chief guest at the press conference. Samant Lal Sen. Senior military and civilian officials were also present.

It was informed in the press conference that the foreign medical team and the health minister came for the post-surgery follow-up of Rabeya and Rocare, twins who had rare conjoined heads.

Speakers said, in medical terms, children with double heads are called “Craniopagus Twins”. Conjoined twins are a challenging disorder for pediatrics. Out of 2.5 million live twins, only one pair of twins is born. About 40 percent of twins are stillborn, and another third die within 24 hours. Approximately 25 percent of children live with a pair of heads, which can be surgically separated. But its success rate is also not very high.

Rare conjoined twins were born in the house of Rafiqul Islam and Taslima Begum of Chatmohar Upazila in Pabna. On the instructions of the Prime Minister, this rare surgery was performed for the first time on August 1 for 33 hours at Dhaka’s CMH, which is the 17th in the world.

Rabeya and Rokeya were brought to CMH on July 22, 2019 to undergo the most complicated part of the surgery, the ‘twin brain’ separation, the press conference said. Two surgeries lasting two hours and 30 minutes were successfully completed on February 29 and March 13, 2020. Through these two surgeries, the existing wound on their head is filled with new cells. In late February 2022, the skin lesions on the left side of Rabia’s head began to develop and later grew to reveal the artificial skull implanted under the skin.
