A new UNICEF representative in Kazakhstan has been appointed

Dr. Rashed Mustafa Sarwar was officially appointed as the new UNICEF Representative in Kazakhstan after receiving accreditation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He replaced Arthur van Diesen in this post, Liter.kz reports with reference to UNICEF.

Dr. Rashed Mustafa Sarwar worked for more than 25 years in Central Asia, the Caucasus, Europe and Southeast Asia in the UN system, of which 18 years with UNICEF.

I am delighted to join the UNICEF Kazakhstan team in this landmark year, which marks 30 years since the ratification of the Convention on the Rights of the Child by the Government of Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan has made impressive progress in protecting children’s rights, and we want to continue our fruitful cooperation to make every child’s dreams come true,” said Dr. Rashed Sarwar.

Prior to his appointment in Kazakhstan, Dr. Rashed headed the UNICEF Emergency Response Office in Poland for two years. From 2020 to 2022, he led the UNICEF office in Malaysia and Brunei. From 2015 to 2020, he was UNICEF Representative in Belarus, and previously served as UNICEF Deputy Representative in Azerbaijan.

Sarwar is a citizen of Bangladesh. Has a PhD in Medical Sciences. Fluent in three languages: Bengali (Bangla), English and Russian. Married, has two children.
