A gang has found a new trap to scam asylum seekers in the UK. For this they are using a voluntary repatriation program of the UK government. The gang is essentially tricking asylum seekers in the UK into going to Rwanda and getting £3,000 in aid.

British newspaper The Guardian recently reported that fraudsters are working on two projects. One is the 3000 pound financial aid announced by the government. Another is to advertise that the government is offering a £3,000 incentive to send asylum seekers rejected in the UK to Rwanda.

Fraudulent gang members are calling asylum seekers using the name of Migrant Help, a private organization that supports asylum seekers. These calls are being made by hiding the number. For example, the caller’s identity cannot be identified.

Migrant Help said on social media platform X that no such calls are being made from their side after the matter came to their attention.

The British Home Office has condemned the incident, saying it is a cruel trick to deceive vulnerable people.

There are thousands of asylum seekers in the UK. Many of their asylum applications have been rejected. But the British government cannot send them back to their country as they are citizens of war-torn countries or where human rights are not being protected.

Rejected asylum seekers are also unable to legally work in the UK. But if you go to Rwanda you can get employment opportunities. Besides, they will also get additional assistance for five years under the proposed scheme.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has promised to stop the boats carrying asylum seekers crossing the English Channel to the south coast of England. This politician has taken stopping such boats as one of his five priorities.

Under that plan, the British government decided to send asylum seekers to Rwanda. But last year, the country’s Supreme Court declared the government’s plan illegal.

After that, the UK government made a new agreement with Rwanda to overcome the obstacles of the court. For this, initiatives have been taken to pass the law through the parliament. The law would declare Rwanda a so-called safe country for asylum seekers and prevent other legal challenges.
