PACE’s resolution calling for the non-acceptance of the credentials of the delegation of Azerbaijan on substantive grounds is another manifestation of double standards and bias towards our country.
Publika.az MP Soltan Mammadov said these thoughts in his statement to Akhar.az.
The MP said that the French Senate’s resolution against Azerbaijan, Borrell’s speech, the PACE resolution – all these confirm that a campaign is being conducted against our country:
“Such steps seriously affect the role of the European Union in the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. In general, it undermines the confidence of the Azerbaijani public in the European structures.
According to the deputy, the attempts of the EU to send some form of armed mission to the territories of Azerbaijan and to establish the mission stationed in the territories of Armenia in Azerbaijan were unsuccessful:
“And now they are trying to launch new pressure mechanisms against our country. Some countries tried hard to prevent COP-29 and the prestigious UN World Cities Forum from being held in Azerbaijan. But these attempts were also unsuccessful. Large-scale campaigns against Azerbaijan in connection with COP 29 were carried out in the US and French media. They cannot come to terms with the restoration of our country’s territorial integrity and the creation of new realities in the South Caucasus. From this point of view, I think that the decision of the Azerbaijani delegation to freeze its activities in PACE was a completely correct step.
Soltan Mammadov noted that during the period of Azerbaijan’s representation in PACE, the initiatives of our delegation to raise the grave consequences of the Armenian occupation were ignored:
“The reactions to these initiatives were such that the institution is not a suitable platform for discussing issues related to the conflict. However, now the European deputies take a completely different position and make groundless accusations against Azerbaijan. In 2023 alone, PACE adopted several resolutions on the Karabakh issue. All this shows that Azerbaijan’s establishment of its territorial integrity and sovereignty, its independent policy, and its failure to submit to the pressure of any international organization or state are the main reasons for the biased policy against us.”
According to the deputy, regardless of the decisions made by PACE and other institutions, the people and the state of Azerbaijan have made their strategic choice:
“We are ready to cooperate with anyone who respects our territorial integrity, sovereignty and rights as a member of the international community. Azerbaijan has repeatedly proved how reliable a partner it is. Therefore, no resolution or pressure can turn us from our path.”
