This island is much less popular than Malta or Ibiza, yet it is surrounded by turquoise waters and postcard-perfect landscapes. Located in the eastern Mediterranean, facing the Turkish coast and Lebanon, Cyprus is an island divided into two entities: the north is administered by the Turkish Cypriots, while the south is under the control of the Greek Cypriots. Starting from February 2024, the airline Cyprus Airways will connect Brussels and the coastal city of Larnaca to Cyprus, in three and a half hours, with a direct flight. Until now, travelers had to stop in Munich or Athens to reach their final destination. Initially two flights per week will be offered to the public, then from summer 2024 a third will arrive at Brussels airport.
The island of Aphrodite and its wonders
The nickname given to Cyprus comes directly from Greek mythology. According to legend, the goddess of love and fertility, Aphrodite, was born on a beach on the island. What do you need to know before leaving for this new destination? First of all, know that the Greek part, located to the south, is much more touristy than the north, and includes the main attractions to see on the island. This destination is very sunny, with an average temperature of 16 degrees in February, and between 30 and 38 degrees in the summer months. It is also an ideal base for lovers of beautiful beaches with turquoise waters.

Furthermore, the island has a rich historical heritage. There are, among other things, the ancient ruins of Paphos, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Also stop in Nicosia, the island’s capital, which brings together a mix of Greek and Turkish culture, with pretty streets, city walls and stone houses. Without forgetting the gastronomy, with halloumi, one of the Cyprus specialties to absolutely try.
For a gourmet, sunny and cultural holiday, Cyprus is where you will find all these facets at once. In addition to this destination, Brussels Airport will also host direct flights to Singapore from May.
