A new cancer drug that scientists are working on in the United States has created hope.
Publika.az reports that the research group compared the newly developed drug with a “snowstorm” that will prevent the mutated protein from turning into a cancer cell.
Scientists have announced that they can pass a new stage in the fight against cancer. The “City Hope” organization said that positive results were obtained for the first time from the drug, which it has been working on for 20 years. The drug, developed by scientists working at the Los Angeles clinic, targets a protein that causes many types of cancer.
Prof. Dr. Sönmez, who gave information about the working principles of the prepared medicine, said that the developing medicine was still in the preclinical stage:
“This phase includes studies on mice and dogs. The effect of the drug on cancer cells has been studied. There is a protein called PCNA. Cancer cells have a mutation on this protein. This drug targets an antigen we call PCNA.
There is not much research on the antigen we normally call PCNA. This is a very important antigen, because after mutation it is responsible for the replication of the chromosomal transmission spiral, which we call DNA. Also a protein associated with the growth of tumors. A study was conducted targeting the PJNA antigen with this drug.”
According to research, the drug can be effective in about 70 types of cancer. The drug has also been tested in solid tumors, and it has been found to be effective in the preclinical stage in difficult-to-treat breast, prostate, brain, ovarian, cervical, and small-cell lung cancers.
