During her distinguished artistic performance, titled “Healing Rituals,” which was hosted by the historic Jinan Al-Sabil space in the scientific capital, the Syrian innovator enthralled the festival audience with her sweet melodies and rhythms, in a unique dive into the ancient traditions of reviving the soul and body.

The form of this musical performance that attracted the attention of the attending audience was more than just a concert, but rather a sensory journey that included deep-rooted rituals inspired by ancient traditions and customs specifically designed to soothe thoughts and souls.

The artist also inspired her work from the rituals of Hadhrat and healing, such as the Zar dance in Egypt, Indian spiritual music, and Manding music in West Africa. Nissim Jalal was also particularly influenced by Tajweed, that sacred melody and silence between Qur’anic verses.

For Nissim Jalal, the silence between the sentences in the Holy Qur’an is a source of contemplation and spirituality, stressing that this dialogue between sound and silence, between music and spirituality, is what greatly distinguishes her melodies.

The Syrian flute player also stressed the importance of spirituality in the music she performs, expressing her belief that “today in the Arab world there is an increasing tendency toward a very limited vision of what the divine essence is,” adding that “we must not reject beauty because it is part of religion.”
