In the southern capital, the problem of water shortage in the Kamenskoye Plateau microdistrict has been successfully resolved thanks to the new Balkhash reservoir, built on the initiative of the city akim Erbolat Dosayev, Liter.kz reports.
According to the press service of the Almaty akimat, local residents now enjoy uninterrupted water supply. A water problem that had persisted for ten years was resolved in just one year.
Eight thousand residents live in the Kamenskoye Plateau microdistrict. One of them, the Malkov family, has been living here for several years. According to Tatyana Malkova, the problem of water shortage was especially acute in the summer.
“In our area, the water pressure has become weak. There were a lot of people, everyone was watering their gardens, and there was simply not enough water for everyone. We used mountain irrigation water, sometimes taking it from water carriers that came to our neighborhood. A year ago, the akimat promised us that there would be an uninterrupted water supply thanks to the construction of a new water storage tank. The facility was built quickly enough, as promised. We were given water, the pressure was very powerful, which we were incredibly happy about. In one year, we solved a water shortage problem that had lasted 10 years. We thank the city akim Erbolat Dosayev for the work done,” she shared.

A resident of the Kamensky Plateau, Vitaly Zamaraev, noted that there have been no problems with access since the water supply began.
“We used to have interruptions in the supply of cold water. At the moment there are no problems, it does not turn off at night, and there is always water during the day. All residents are happy and satisfied. Since we have a private sector, we need a lot of water, whether you water the garden or do other household chores, the consumption is high. We thank you for the measures taken, we now live in comfortable conditions,” said resident Vitaly Zamaraev.

Resident Laura Kurmangalieva shared her opinion.
“At the last meeting with the population, the akim of Almaty promised us, residents living on Ladushkina Street, to provide a central water supply. On behalf of all residents of Ladushkina Street, we express our gratitude for the fulfilled promise; today we have water. Good water pressure comes from the tap, there are no problems with water,” she said.

The akimat recalled that water supply in the upper part of the Medeu district has historically been in the zone of influence of surface sources. Previously, these territories were part of the Talgar district of the Almaty region. In 2013-2014 they were annexed to the Medeu district of Almaty. Since then, the issue of providing residents of these microdistricts with high-quality water supply and sanitation has remained pressing.
The situation worsened in 2022 due to a decrease in the water level in wells by 2.5 times – from 150 to 60 cubic meters. m. Then the city akim decided to implement the first large-scale project to connect residents to underground water supply sources.
“Construction work began in May 2023. Five reservoirs with a capacity of 6.9 thousand cubic meters, three wells with a capacity of 7.3 thousand cubic meters per day were built, and 6.1 km of new trunk networks were laid. Eight existing wells were also reconstructed and equipment was replaced. Water will gradually flow to the Kolsai, Muztau and Yubileiny microdistricts after additional construction work is completed,” the akimat’s press service added.
As a result, 20 thousand residents of four microdistricts of Almaty will be provided with a stable water supply.
