(MANISA)- Manisa Governor Enver Ünlü stated that the forest fire that broke out in the Soma district of Manisa spread to a large area due to the effect of the wind and that the extinguishing efforts were continuing.
The forest fire that broke out yesterday afternoon in the Soma district of Manisa for an unknown reason continues. The latest situation regarding the fire, which was intervened by the Forestry Regional Directorate, Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department, Soma Municipality and volunteers, was given by Manisa Governor Enver Ünlü. Noting that the fire spread to a large area due to the increasing force of the wind, Governor Ünlü said that two neighborhoods were evacuated as a precaution.
“We have secured our two villages”
Making a statement to ANKA News Agency regarding the latest status of the fire, Manisa Governor Enver Ünlü noted the following:
“Yesterday, upon the report received at 12:18, our friends went to the region at 12:28. A fire report came in the Deniş Neighborhood of our Soma district. Due to a very strong wind of up to 60 kilometers per hour, the fire was about to be brought under control, but now it has spread to the burning area. Of course, our priority was the safety of our Bayat and Tekeliışıklar villages. I was more concerned with the evacuation of our citizens there. A total of 122 land vehicles and 16 air vehicles intervened in the fire. One of our helicopters with night vision capability is still intervening. All our vehicles are on the field. First of all, we secured two of our villages and evacuated them to Soma and neighboring villages as a precaution. Thank God, we did not lose any lives or property. There was a fire in a small abandoned warehouse in the other neighborhood, but the flames reached the fountain you just saw. Spot fires, as foresters call them, flew 700-800 meters. For this reason, the fire spread to a large area. It also spread to olive groves, gardens and fields. jumped. Our friends took precautions there, mostly during the daytime.

We are currently in the 14th hour, the wind dropped below 10 kilometers per hour after 1:00. This made our job much easier. Our Forestry Regional Director and his teams, business managers, Balıkesir, Bursa, Afyon, Denizli, Manisa and İzmir teams are here in the field. Right now, there are 57 water tenders, 23 water tankers, 5 dozers, 11 helicopters, one of which has night vision capability, 5 planes, 10 fire trucks, 3 TOMAs. We have also positioned the TOMAs of our police and gendarmerie at the entrances of the villages, which has seriously prevented the fire from spreading to these villages. Our UMKE teams, AFAD teams, Red Crescent, 5 public order teams, 4 traffic teams evacuated both our citizens and animals from these villages. Thankfully, they were transported to safe areas in good health. Our Soma Municipality transported them to the animal market. Both of our villages have been evacuated as a precaution. Thankfully, we have no loss of life or property in either village. We do not have any intervention team affected by the fire. This makes us happy and consoles us a little. However, our Tekeliışıklar Neighborhood has 90 households and our Bayat Neighborhood, where we are located, has 150 households. Their evacuation was done very quickly. I would like to thank our citizens for their understanding. Our municipalities, muhtars, gendarmerie, fire department, forestry teams, and teams affiliated with our regional directorate worked very devotedly. We cut off the electricity in the region as a precaution. The fire is currently ongoing. Helicopters and planes will quickly return to the region in the morning.”
Regarding the cause of the fire, Governor Ünlü stated that the gendarmerie was conducting the necessary investigations.
