A key port channel in Baltimore is open after the bridge collapse – 2024-06-19 09:26:54

The Port of Baltimore canal is now fully open, 11 weeks after the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed when a container ship lost power.

The US Army Corps of Engineers said passage through the canal, which is 213 meters wide and 15 meters deep, was “safe”.

The ship Dali crashed into the bridge on March 26, blocking the shipping artery and killing six workers on the facility.

More than 2,000 people, including specialists from all over the world and specialized equipment, were involved in the removal of 50,000 tons of metal and concrete debris from the broken bridge.

The situation was complicated by a container ship stuck in the debris of the bridge, but in the last month a special operation was carried out to remove it.

Rebuilding the facility will take four years and cost $1.9 billion, Maryland state officials said.
