A former head of intelligence has condemned the prosecutor’s office – 2024-02-22 13:25:23

The former high-ranking employee of the “Intelligence” agency Mila Kalinova has condemned the prosecutor’s office for BGN 26,000, the specialized publication lex.bg reported. She was the head of a directorate in intelligence. Kalinova was accused together with presidential adviser Iliya Milushev of disclosing classified information and official crime.

Milushev was detained in a spectacular action by the prosecutor’s office in the presidency in the summer of 2020. The invasion of armed and masked men was one of the catalysts of the protests demanding the resignations of the then prime minister Boyko Borisov and the previous chief prosecutor Ivan Geshev.

The campaign turned into a fiasco. Milushev’s arrest was declared illegal, as was the detention of the presidential secretary Plamen Uzunov. The case against Milushev and Kalinova was dismissed in 2023. It came to this after the prosecution decided that the two conspired to export secret information. However, the story is quite different.

In 2018 and 2019, inspections were carried out in intelligence by the National Tax Service and the State Financial Inspectorate. At that time, Kalinova was the head of the Information Security Directorate. According to her, the examiners were given too much information about the activities of the intelligence. She warned the management of the service, and was subsequently fired. Then he meets with Milushev and gives him his signals on the case. During the investigation, no evidence was found that the two had disclosed state secrets.

In her claim in the case for compensation, Kalinova states that because of the accusations, her good professional name was damaged, as well as that her honor and dignity were harmed.

It is clear from the court decision that she could receive a higher compensation, but such was not requested. There is still no final ruling on the case.
