Riad Mazour, Minister of Industry and Trade, said, “The industrial sector has been subject, for 19 years, to a number of successive strategies and plans. “Including the industrial recovery and industrial acceleration plans, which were paralleled by a number of efforts undertaken by the state to support the national industrial sector.”
Mazur added, during his answer to questions from parliamentary advisors, today, Tuesday, that “Among these efforts is providing direct financial support to the industrial sectors and supporting infrastructure with the aim of attracting investors, as well as qualifying working human resources in order to achieve profitability and achieve competition.”
The government official stated, “Over the past decade, the added value of the industrial sector has been doubled, which could contribute to raising the gross domestic product by 20 percent. Today, national and regional industrial consultations are being held with stakeholders for the first time, with the aim of developing a regional industrial plan for the benefit of each entity individually.”
Mazur stated, “Attracting more industrial investments requires the availability of industrial lands and industrial structures to allow the implementation of our commitment to create an industrial zone at the level of each region, as we have only 4 regions left and we are working to launch work in them during this year,” pointing out that “ The goal is also to make industrial areas attract investments, which raises the need to rehabilitate some of them.”
He continued: “There are some modernized industrial zones that do not yet have their own investments; This is due to three factors: the lack of sufficient equipment, which we will work to strengthen, and the presence of some imbalances, including speculation by some individuals who reserve industrial lands, in addition to the fact that investors are not familiar with some industrial areas, which is what we are working on today in terms of By highlighting the advantages offered by each region.”
The same official stated that “industry in Morocco was previously concentrated specifically in the Casablanca axis; However, today this industry is present in the cities of Kenitra, Tangiers and Fez, while it is expected that it will also begin in the cities of Errachidia, Guelmim and Dakhla. There is a tendency to benefit from the capabilities of all parties on the basis of making industry a pillar of development.”
In a related context, Mazour answered the questions of some parliamentary advisors regarding helping Moroccan companies to export, as he pointed out that “more than 250 companies were supported to help them open new markets, including 200 companies that will resort to exporting for the first time.”
The Minister of Industry and Trade also highlighted that “this remains, to date, insufficient; Given that there is an ambition to reach something greater, because the pace of export must increase five times in order to help companies reserve their places and position themselves in foreign markets and achieve a stronger presence for them,” indicating “the necessity of protecting the national industry in this regard.”
