Most of the 48 children saved by Keur Yeurmandé risk losing their lives before the age of 5, warns Dr. Ibrahima Giroux, professor of Cognitive Sciences at the UGB. She recommends appropriate treatment because, according to him, the children have been subjected to great stress.
« We’re talking about six dead children. You see, these are the supreme sacrifices we can make for these children. Among the 48 living children we are talking about, they are fortunately cared for in health facilities » declared Dr. Ibrahima Giroux, on Rfm.
The UGB Cognitive Science teacher warns that if we are not careful, and make the mistake that it is just a matter of feeding them, a good number of these children will not survive and those who survive may not reach the age of 5. “ Those who will pass the age of 6 will envy those who have died because they will be cognitively behind. They will be social cases“, he explained in particular.
Dr. Giroux calls for strengthening the technical skills of the people who care for these children in these facilities. “ Let them understand that it is not just about food but about playing with these children because they have been neglected and abused“, he concluded.
