A Cuban woman’s odyssey to bury her husband

MÉRIDA, Mexico – Cuban Nathalia González said she will not be able to bury the body of her husband, who died early Wednesday in a motorcycle accident in Havana, until Thursday because there is no transportation to deliver it to the family.

Dariel Peña, González’s husband, died instantly from brain death, early this Wednesday morning, after his motorcycle crashed into a tree in Las Guásimas, Arroyo Naranjo.

“At 12 noon, I was already oozing everywhere. At 1 pm, the medical examiner arrived and now they have us here waiting, waiting, waiting, and then they don’t tell us anything,” said the young woman, visibly affected.
