At Club Brugge, the calendar year 2024 marks the farewell of Vincent Mannaert. At the end of this season he will definitively resign as coach of Blauw-Zwart. But first he will deal with a busy winter market.
In the autumn, Mannaert announced that after a highly successful chapter in the history of the Bruges club, he needed a new challenge. And so the current CEO will leave his post after this season. But until then he doesn’t want to keep his commitment, it’s not an early goodbye.
In the coming months he will prepare the new CEO Bob Madou and the yet to be appointed sporting director (John de Jong?) for the change of power. And in agreement with them, Mannaert will also take care of the winter transfer period. He promises to be quite busy.
Extra defender wanted
To continue competing on three fronts in the second part of the season, the Club is looking for targeted reinforcements. More specifically in the center of defense, something that coach Ronny Deila had already mentioned. And Mannaert will surely want to ensure his latest incoming transfers are a success too.
Also, we need to look at what happens on the outbound side. Negotiations underway for Tajon Buchanan, even if the turning point with Inter seems close. Furthermore, some (younger) players could be loaned out and there could already be some contacts with a view to the summer transfer of, for example, Antonio Nusa.
Maouassa on the way back
And Mannaert appears to have an extra file on top of it. For example, recently it became known that Faitout Maouassa may return soon. The rear was rented to RC Lens this season, but it cannot meet expectations. The French The 11th now confirms that Maouassa is returning to Bruges. Lens is even said to be looking for alternative names for his position. Since he is also not in the Club’s plans, Mannaert and his teammates will have to look for a new solution. The Frenchman still has a contract with the Club until mid-2025.
