A ceremony honoring the icon of Peruvian poetry in Rabat

On Friday in Rabat, a concert was held to honor Peruvian poetry and the famous composer María Isabel Granda Larco, known as “Chabuca Granda,” one of the most prominent figures representing the cultural heritage of this country.

On this occasion, Peruvian artist Miriam Quiñones presented a selection of Chabuca Granda’s works that revolutionized Peruvian music; This gave the audience the opportunity to dive into the depths of Peru’s cultural and artistic richness, during this artistic evening organized by the Cervantes Institute in Rabat, as part of the activities of the eighth Spanish Language Week in Morocco (from April 15 to 24).

With a simple guitar accompanying her sweet voice, the artist, composer and songwriter uses, in all her songs, deep lyrics to explore the depths and secrets of the soul and the magic of the unique nature of Peru, recalling the timeless poems of Chabuca Granda, such as “La Flor de la canela” and “Fina estama”.

The artist also performed other lyric poems by distinguished contemporary Peruvian authors, in celebration of Peruvian Poet’s Day (April 15), in honor of the international poet Cesar Vallejo, who left an indelible legacy in the history of literature.

In a press statement at the end of this evening, the artist Quiñones expressed her hope that “this show will have a good response and will arouse the interest of the public in learning more about culture, music and poetry in Peru.”

For her part, Angelica Calderon Alvarado, Minister Counselor at the Peruvian Embassy in Morocco, indicated that this event falls within the framework of commemorating the sixtieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Peru and the Kingdom of Morocco.

The Peruvian diplomat added: “It is an honor for us to be able to hold this event that aims to celebrate our bilateral relations. We have always felt very welcomed by Peruvian culture and art, during our participation in the editions of the Spanish Language Week in Morocco.”
