In preparation for the 5th World Nomad Games, the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University in Almaty hosted a round table “Current state and prospects for the development of equestrian sports and national horse breeding in the Republic of Kazakhstan,” Liter.kz reports.
The round table was attended by the President of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Rector of the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University Akylbek Kurishbaev, the President of the Association of National Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan Islambek Salzhanov, the Mazhilis deputy Amanzhol Altai, as well as representatives of the Ministries of Agriculture, Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the scientific community, sports clubs, the Association of National Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, heads of its member federations and practicing horse breeders.
During the event, issues of development of sports horse breeding in Kazakhstan, training of personnel for equestrian and national sports were discussed.
In his welcoming speech, the head of the Association of National Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Islambek Salzhanov, specifically focused on the issues of regulating the sphere of national sports, noting that previously not a single law regulating this sphere had been adopted in Kazakhstan.
The Association of National Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, together with deputies of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, is initiating the development of a bill on national sports, within the framework of which systemic support measures will be provided for the development of ethnic sports in Kazakhstan– said Islambek Salzhanov.
Today, on behalf of the head of state, the Association is developing a draft Concept for the development of national sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2024-2029. It will describe the problems of development of national sports and ways to solve them, and will also present an action plan and target indicators.
During the round table, the level of infrastructural development of stud farms in Kazakhstan, which currently does not meet the requirements of the global equestrian industry, was discussed.
The participants came to the conclusion that the development of equestrian sports such as tenge ilu, kokpar, bayge, audaryspak, zhamby atu is impossible without increasing the number of sports horses, therefore it is important to pay significant attention to sports science and sports medicine.
On the eve of the 5th WNG, on the initiative of the Association of National Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Higher School of National Sports was created; for the first time, admission of applicants to the Academy of Sports and Tourism in Almaty will begin for the specialty “equestrian sports coach” and for the specialty “veterinary medicine in sports horse breeding” – at based at the Agrarian University in Almaty.
At the same time, with the assistance of the association, Senate deputies initiated a law on the preservation and reproduction of the Kostanay horse breed, which is currently under consideration in the Mazhilis.
As a result of the round table, a number of recommendations were adopted, including the opening of a laboratory for doping control of sports horses on the basis of the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University, an analysis of the state of sports horse breeding as a livestock industry, etc.
